If numbers are any indication, the Roanoke Valley is taking a real interest in becoming more healthy.
Several hundred people of all ages gathered at Ledgerwood Park Saturday to learn more about eating healthy and moving more at the second annual FamilyFest at Ledgerwood Park.
THE KATE B. REYNOLDS CHARITABLE TRUST ANNOUNCED IT WILL INVEST MORE THAN $1.2 MILLION IN TWO COMPREHENSIVE LOCAL PROGRAMS to support the community’s vision to combat childhood obesity as part of Healthy Places NC, a long-term Trust initiative to improve health and health care in rural, financially disadvantaged counties in North Carolina.
School: A Place to Learn, Play & Get Healthy
Good things are happening in Halifax County. Recognizing the strength of the area’s educators, school administrators, community leaders, health care providers and recreation advocates, the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust selected Halifax County among the first locations to launch its statewide, county-by-county “Healthy Places North Carolina” investments.
The Roanoke Valley Community Health Initiative (RV-CHI) is made up of individuals and community organizations seeking to empower the residents of the Roanoke Valley to live a healthier lifestyle. The annual FamilyFest is a part of this initiative. The FamilyFest taking place Saturday, April 26 is a free event and will be packed with games, food, and information. This year’s theme is “Moving and Playing.”
Public Awareness
Responsible to inform the public, including and beyond RV-CHI partners, of information, events, and opportunities related to health and wellness in the Roanoke Valley. The Public Awareness workgroup will develop networks to use website, social media, and formal news outlets to ensure the public has access to this information.
