The national award-winning Walking Classroom program provides students and teachers with an innovative way to get exercise without sacrificing instructional time. The evidence-based nonprofit program’s “Walk, Listen, and Learn” methodology capitalizes on the favorable link between exercise and cognitive function. If you are a classroom teacher in a public school, The Walking Classroom Institute may be able to provide you with a classroom set of donated materials at no cost to you. 🌎🎓

   
For more than 25 years, this vital Wild Ones donor-funded program has provided grants ranging from $100 to $500 for native plant gardens and landscaping projects throughout the United States. The funds are designated for acquiring native plants and seeds for outdoor learning areas that engage youth (preschool to high school) directly in planning, planting and caring for native plant gardens. All public and private schools, non-profits such as nature centers, youth organizations and community youth centers in the US are welcome to apply so long as the project uses native plants or seeds to educate youth. 🌎🎓

   
The Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program focuses on the stewardship and restoration of coastal, wetland and riparian ecosystems across the country. Its goal is to meet the conservation needs of important species and habitats, providing measurable and meaningful conservation and educational outcomes. The program requires the establishment and/or enhancement of diverse partnerships and an education/outreach component that will help shape and sustain behavior to achieve conservation goals.

   
Grant requests from eligible organizations that focus on one or more of the following priorities will be considered: Educating K-12 students and the public about environmental science; Protecting and preserving natural habitats; Improving open spaces and making nature accessible. 🌎🎓

   
NEEF mobilizes public and private funding to support community-based projects and respond to critical and emerging needs in K-12 education, conservation, and health. The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is the nation’s leading organization in lifelong environmental learning, creating opportunities for people to experience and learn about the environment in ways that improve their lives and the health of the planet.

   
🐦NC-based Grant ➡ In 2000, the Attorney General and Smithfield Foods entered into a 25-year agreement that, in part, provided $2 million per year for environmental projects across the state. This money was used to establish the EEG Program, which has awarded environmental grants since 2002. EEG awards range from $5,000 to $500,000 in grants for a three-year grant project. These grants are only available to non-profit organizations, including academic institutions, and government entities. Eligible applicants can apply for funds for projects in the areas of land acquisitions, construction, remediation, restoration, planning, education, or research. EEG also fund small grant projects (awards of $50,000 or less) within these areas. There is a preference for projects that address environmental harm and damage to overburdened and underserved communities as well as for projects in eastern North Carolina.

🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ BWF has programs which support primary and secondary students, science and mathematics teachers, institutions, and academic scientists: postdoctoral-faculty bridging awards and faculty awards. 🌎🎓

   
🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ Since 1994, the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) awards matching grants to local governments for parks, public beach access, and improvements in state parks. The statewide program helps local governments reach their park and public access goals to improve the quality of life in their communities.

   
🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ GreenPower’s Solar+ Schools program launched in 2015. Every year, we provide grants for solar educational projects for K-12 schools across North Carolina, complete with a weather station, data monitoring, a STEM curriculum from NEED.org and training for teachers. 🌎🎓

   
🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ Keep North Carolina Beautiful operates through a grant process that is open to any 501 (c) 3 organization in the state of North Carolina. The grants are for beautification, replenishment and recycling projects that educate the youth of North Carolina on the impacts of preserving and enhancing our state’s environmental sustainability. The grants are for $1000.00 each. 🌎🎓

   
🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ The Green Saves Green Action Grant program is for students, educators, and youth group leaders and organizations who have an idea for a local environmental project, a plan, and want to take action. 🌎🎓

   
🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ The N.C. Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission's grants have funded hiking trips to the mountains, ecology programs at the coast, and construction of outdoor classrooms, trails, and agricultural learning facilities statewide. 🌎🎓

🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ To preserve and protect native plants in North Carolina, the North Carolina Native Plant Society offers four funding opportunities for research, education, restoration, land conservation, and garden installation. Includes the Tom and Bruce Shinn Fund for NC graduate and undergraduate students for research on native plants and invasive plant impacts.

   
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's Environment Program awards grants through invited proposals and the occasional funding competition. Funding opportunities may also be available through organizations administering re-granting programs supported by the foundation.

   
The Laboratory Equipment Donation Program (LEDP), formerly the Energy-Related Laboratory Equipment (ERLE) Grant Program, was established by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to grant surplus and available used energy-related laboratory equipment to universities and colleges in the United States for use in energy oriented educational programs.

   
Each year, Seed Savers Exchange donates seeds to hundreds of organizations and gardens in need through its Herman's Garden Seed Donation Program.

   
🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ For more than 25 years, North Carolina’s electric cooperatives have helped light up learning in K-12 classrooms statewide through the Bright Ideas education grant program. Tar Heel teachers with innovative ideas for creative learning projects can submit an online application April through September of each year. 🌎🎓

   
The K4C Microgrant Program is the bridge between ideas and action. By providing microgrants in varying amounts up to $1,000, K4C helps young citizen leaders execute and magnify their initiatives to help repair our world. Whether it is turning a vacant lot into a community garden, rebuilding a school playground or helping senior citizens get their homes ready for winter, they want to hear what project you’re passionate about.

   
Want to make a difference? Take action? Solve a tough community problem? YSA can help! Whether you’re a kid, teen, educator, or adult mentor, YSA Grants power youth-led service and service-learning projects with funding, training, and resource support. Funding amount ranges from $250 to $5,000.

   
Walmart partners with organizations that operate on a national scale in communities throughout the country. They provide funds to organizations that have local affiliates around the country, and the majority of grants from this program include re-grants to implement programs in local communities. Grants funded at $250,000 or above.

   
The Cornell Douglas Foundation provides grants to organizations that advocate for environmental health and justice, encourage stewardship of the environment, and further respect for sustainability of resources. The average grant amount is $10,000. Applications accepted year-round.

   
K-12 school districts participating in the National School Lunch Program that serve at least 100 reimbursable meals are eligible to receive a six-foot (five-well) salad bar package. 🌎🎓

   
The Environmental Research & Education Foundation accepts proposals for research projects and educational initiatives for developing tools that promote awareness or increase knowledge of the solid waste industry. Awards are generally up to $500,000.

   
Costco Wholesale grants support programs focusing on children, education and health and human services. They look to achieve the greatest impact where Costco’s employees and members live and work. Only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, which meet their giving guidelines and focus areas, are considered. Applications are accepted throughout the year on a rolling basis.

   
When children’s lives are filled with play, we all benefit: our communities will be healthier and happier today, and our society will be stronger and more resilient tomorrow. KaBOOM! offers a number of community-built playground grants to empower friends and neighbors to collaborate for a common cause – to bring play to their communities. The Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation supports grassroots organizations and movements in the U.S. working to change environmental, social, economic and political conditions to bring about a more just, equitable and sustainable world. Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Public school teachers who register their classroom at the Adopt-a-Classroom website can be adopted by an individual, business or foundation. Once adopted, teachers will receive credit to purchase items that enrich the learning environment, including classroom technology. 🌎🎓

   
Patagonia seeks proposals from organizations working on the root causes of environmental problems and approaching issues with a commitment to long-term change.

   
Mitsubishi Corporation Foundation for the Americas supports projects in biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, environmental justice and environmental education. While proposals are accepted all year, ideal timing is during the first quarter of the calendar year.

   
The Lawrence Foundation is a private, family foundation focused on making grants to support environmental, education, human services and other causes. Applications are open to any organization that meets the grant guidelines. Grants are awarded every June and December.

   
The Verizon Foundation provides grants to eligible recipients. Funding priorities are aligned around Digital Inclusion, Climate Protection and Human Prosperity.

The Voya Foundation awards grants of $2,500 to $100,000 and more to non-profit organizations. The Foundation focuses on financial literacy and STEM education.

   
Recognizing that healthy, thriving communities depend on involved citizens, organizations, and corporate partners for momentum, Waste Management lends its support and services to programs related to environmental education, the environment and the community. Applications accepted year-round.

   
The BoatU.S. Foundation awards nonprofit organizations up to $10,000 for the promotion of safe and clean boating education. Past topics have ranged from public service announcements on the effects of boating under the influence to hands-on education about the effects of marine debris. Letters of intent accepted year-round.

   
🐦NC-Based Grant ➡ Each year the North Carolina Wildlife Federation provides grants to students enrolled and attending an accredited NC college or university full-time. These students must be majoring in the areas of wildlife, fisheries, forestry, conservation or the environment. Scholarships are for graduate students and for undergraduates (including 2-year programs).

   
Toyota seeks to expand access to opportunities that improve people’s lives and create a culture of inclusion—strengthening the communities where we live, work and play. To have meaningful, sustainable impact, Toyota takes a holistic approach to community investment.

   
Each year, Bonnie Plants distributes free cabbage plants to 3rd graders across the country to foster an interest in gardening and the environment. As part of the program, Bonnie gives a $1,000 award to one student in each state. 🌎🎓

   
The Georgia-Pacific Foundation supports organizations that improve the quality of life in communities where Georgia-Pacific operates. Grants are awarded for educational efforts, community enrichment, environmental programs, and entrepreneurship initiatives. Requests are reviewed on a rolling cycle throughout the year. Due to year-end limited funding, early submission is encouraged.

   
Each business day, 4imprint gives a worthy organization $500 in promotional products to spread the word, recruit volunteers, thank donors, offer comfort to someone in need or in some other way turns one thing into something much more.

   
Environmental Education Centers may be eligible for a grant from The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). (Federal Agencies and for-profit institutions are not elegible.) The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. The Institute works at the national level and in coordination with state and local organizations to sustain heritage, culture, and knowledge; enhance learning and innovation; and support professional development.

   
National Wildlife Federation EcoLeader Graduate Student Fellows help to educate and engage the EcoLeaders community through dedicated research projects. Monetary fellowship grants are awarded to graduate students working with National Wildlife Federation staff on research that helps to expand the content and development of the EcoLeaders program to help college students and recent graduates to use project-based learning to develop their environmental leadership and sustainable career goals. EcoLeaders Fellows join a national network of current and alumni fellows, many of whom have gone on to lead new businesses, agencies, and programs for sustainability all across the U.S.

   
Grants from Toshiba America Foundation fund projects, ideas and materials math and science teachers need to innovate in their classrooms, specifically projects designed by one teacher or a small team of teachers to use in their own school. Application deadlines are based on grant amount.
